About the College

Nyangatjatjara College is a community-led school supporting Anangu students across remote communities in the Northern Territory. We are committed to strong culture, strong learning, and creating pathways for young people into the future.

Our Story

Growing education across Anangu communities.

Established in 1997, Nyangatjatjara College is an independent group of schools catering for primary and secondary aged students from the Anangu Pitjantjatjara communities of Kaltukatjara (Docker River), Imanpa and Mutitjulu in the south-west of the Northern Territory.

The College was first established to provide secondary education within each community. In 2015, Nyangatjatjara College took over the operation of Docker River Primary School, creating a more seamless transition from Foundation to Year 10. In 2023, the College also acquired Imanpa Primary School, once again providing both primary and secondary education within the Imanpa community.

Our Approach to Learning

Learning strong in culture and strong in school.

Nyangatjatjara College embraces a both ways teaching and learning approach, often referred to as 2-Way Learning. This approach seeks to connect the life worlds, language and cultural strengths of each community with the learning opportunities provided through the Australian Curriculum.

Our aim is to grow and nurture Anangu students who can stand strong and proud, with firm footholds in both worlds. Learning On Country and learning in classrooms are seen as mutually inclusive, not separate, and together they support meaningful and relevant education.

The College also strives to build innovative programs that prepare students for future pathways in employment, enterprise and community life.

Our Purpose

A future shaped by education, employment and enterprise

Our mission over the next five years is to be recognised as a leader in programs of education, employment and enterprise that are uniquely responsive to the needs of Anangu peoples.

We aim to grow our children, young people and educators as confident and capable people who can live, learn and thrive in multiple worlds. We want to be recognised for excellence, equity and innovation in the programs and services we provide.

Our Future Direction

Building strong futures through innovation and connection

Over the next five years, the College will investigate how new digital tools and systems can support the seamless delivery of learning both online and in the classroom. This strategy will help digitally connect and integrate curriculum, unit planning, daily learning activities, teacher planning, reporting and assessment, the creation and storage of learning resources, learning analytics and AI tools.

The College will also continue investing in the development of On Country field sites on Homelands, working with families to support On Country learning and enterprise activities. These experiences, when captured digitally, will create a rich library of content that can be used to strengthen core learning programs across the College.
